To let your support crew enjoy the food and drinks provided, just like the participants, please purchase them a wristband each upon online registration so that the staff can prepare enough food and drinks for everyone. As volunteers from a local housewives community at Kuang Si Falls will be cooking every meal for us, we ask each of you to please bring THB 300. We will gather the money and offer it to the volunteers as a thank-you and to support the food expenses. *Wristbands will be in the race kits that you will receive on the day of bib pickup.*

Transportation
  • To participate in Ultra Trail Luang Prabang, you have nothing to worry about in terms of transportation as no visa is required to travel to Laos. All you need is a passport with at least 6-month validity. Oh…actually, you need one more thing. Money. The Lao currency is the kip; LAK 100,000 equals to THB 400. An easy way to convert LAK to THB is to cut out the last three zeros and multiply the number obtained by 4. In other wor
SIM Card
  • We recommend the “SIM2Fly” SIM card from the mobile operator AIS. It costs THB 399 and comes with 4GB max speed data allowance for 8 days; it charges THB 6 per minute for international calls to Thailand. Otherwise, you can find a SIM card at the Lao airport. In Laos, there are two types of SIM cards: call-only and data-only. (I don’t get why they have to be sold separately, so I asked my Lao friends. It turned out they did not know why either.) The easiest thing to deal with is the transportation, because you can only take a plane to go there. Flights from Bangkok to Luang Prabang for the end of March would be offered by low-cost airlines at prices as low as THB 2,600-4,000 with 20 kg checked baggage allowance. For premium flights, Bangkok Airways surely comes at the top of the list, thanks to their top-notch service, offering passengers an airport lounge at Suvarnabhumi Airport, a bathroom, a bedroom, and a variety of food and drinks. If you wish to fly with the airline, click on this link www.bangkokair.com to book a flight (there is also an option to fly from Vientiane to Luang Prabang).
Accommodation
  • We recommend you find an accommodation close to Joma Bakery Café https://goo.gl/maps/47nFt3oucAN2 as it will be used as the pickup location for a transfer to the starting point at Kuang Si Falls, as well as the drop-off location for an inbound transfer; a transfer will take one hour. In the side-street next to the café, you will find a lot of accommodation options to choose from at good rates. As the event dates fall at the beginning of the low season, these accommodations should not be fully booked — when I went there, I looked for a place to stay in this area too. It is really easy to find one at an average rate of LAK 100,000-200,000, or THB 400-500, for guesthouses. If you prefer staying at a riverside hotel, the rate will start at LAK 400,000-500,000, or THB 2,000. You are also recommended to arrive in Luang Prabang 2 days prior to the event, so that you can spend time exploring the city. However, it is better avoid staying near Kuang Si Falls as there are few places to eat around that area. For the journey back, you might want to take a flight from Luang Prabang to Bangkok leaving at 16:00, which will allow you to enjoy the city for another full day. Another good thing about Luang Prabang is that the traffic is always good, probably because people use a very small number of vehicles — I myself preferred walking, however. The city is great both for those who enjoy sightseeing and foodies. You can find all kinds of food there, from typical Lao dishes, such as Tum Mak Hoong (shredded in sizeable pieces — just what a typical Luang Prabang Tum Man Hoong would look like) and grilled meats with sticky rice, to Vietnamese ones, like Pho and Banh Cuon. My suggestion for your stay would be to start your day by strolling around the city and having a nice local breakfast with a cup of coffee, try street food (maybe the ones mentioned earlier) in the afternoon, and, finally, check out the “dark” market in the evening. Here I am not talking about one where people would sell and buy illegal stuff, but they are called so because they are open until dark. The market area begins at the front of the royal palace museum and goes up to the roundabout. The merchandise ranges from silk and bags to tea. It is the largest and most convenient place to look for souvenirs. When you visit the market, the food, again, is a do-not-miss, because it is extremely good! Look for an alley next to Indigo Café and you will find in there a mouthwatering paradise filled with a huge lot of very tasty food at reasonable prices.
